April 15 - Water for Rivers

For more than a century, water has been diverted from rivers for “consumptive” use on agricultural fields and in homes and industry.  There is, however, a growing awareness of the non-traditional use of water which requires water to remain in the river, termed “non-consumptive” use.  Those working with the non-consumptive use concept are trying to quantify diverse needs, such as establishing minimum stream flows for recreation, fishing and riparian habitat.  In Colorado, efforts to protect non-consumptive uses are currently taking place through the 1177 Basin Roundtable process.  Join Roaring Fork Audubon to hear Carbondale resident Ken Neubecker' take on this vital topic.
